Requests For Reviews

I often get unsolicited requests to review books and software. If you want to send me your products -- feel free to do so. If you want me to review them though, read on.

Book reviews
I do reviews of books that I think might appeal to those in the legal profession. For fiction, that includes legal thrillers, mystery, crime, war and military fiction with a legal slant -- you get the idea. If the book has a legal hook, I'll consider it.

In addition, I give priority to (and will consider reviewing almost anything by) writers who live in New England, especially someone from the Grand State of Maine.

For nonfiction, the same conditions apply. True crime, politics and government, biographies of lawyers, politicians and well known leaders are all fair game.

In addition, I'll sometimes review business books that I think could be applied to the legal practice. These might include books on marketing and sales, running a business, time management, leadership or other topics.

I also review guide books for lawyers that interest me. Topics include technology, law practice management, solo and small firm practice, and other areas of interest to the general practictioner. These books are often published by the American Bar Association and are available on their website.

If you want to be sure that I'll review your book, write and ask me first. If you want to just send me an unsolicited book and hope that I'll review it, go ahead. But unless I've agreed to review it beforehand, don't hold your breath. I will keep all books sent to me, and your unsolicited book may end up not being reviewed or even read, but instead donated to my local library.

Software Reviews
I'm most interested in reviewing software products that are designed specifically for lawyers: case management, time and billing, document management or assembly -- that type of thing. In addition, I'll consider reviewing any software that makes using a computer easier, safer or faster.

One final thing, I don't want to review software demos. I want to have the software running just the way it would as if it had been purchased -- not with limited features or with some stupid notice telling me everyday that I only have a few days left to purchase the product. So I request that any software be the full version.
